Veterinary & phytosanitary
Veterinary and phytosanitary handling
When importing and exporting animal and plant products, the margin for error is small. Missing documents, an incorrectly completed certificate, or a missed inspection can cause a shipment to be held, rejected, or even destroyed. Flevo Trade Service supports veterinary and phytosanitary processes from start to finish through in-depth knowledge of regulations, practical experience in the fish and food sectors, and direct coordination with the relevant authorities.

Veterinary & Phytosanitary
Veterinary documentation is mandatory for products of animal origin. Phytosanitary documentation applies to plant products. These documents demonstrate that the goods comply with the health and food safety requirements of the European Union.
When animal products are imported into the EU, they are physically inspected by NVWA veterinarians. This takes place upon arrival at the port or at a designated inspection point. Only after approval may the shipment continue to move within the European Union.
A veterinary or phytosanitary shipment is never just about the paperwork. It is a process involving multiple parties. The documentation must match the actual contents, batch codes and labeling, country of origin, and the schedule for transport and inspection. Errors or discrepancies become immediately visible during the physical inspection. That is why preparation is essential.
Strict inspection
In practice, problems often arise from incorrect or incomplete documents from the country of origin. Certificates that have not been fully completed, information that does not match the goods, or labels that do not correspond with the document.
That is why we prefer to review documents in advance, before they are officially issued in the country of origin. This allows us to identify discrepancies in time and reduce the risk of delays or additional inspections on arrival.

Our working process
The workflow is designed to handle veterinary and phytosanitary processes carefully and in line with the applicable regulations.

Requirements
Based on the product, origin, and destination, we determine which documentation is required and which inspections can be expected.
Schedule
The required documents are prepared and checked. Inspections are scheduled at the appropriate inspection points and coordinated with transport and the parties involved.
Check
After physical inspection by the competent authority, the document is finalized. Once approval has been granted, the shipment can continue to move within the European Union.
